It is of no surprise to me that despite the participation age raised to 18 there remains 60,000 young people who were not placed in education or training in 2018 (DfE figures).

For Derby City 13% did not receive an education or training place. It is crucial that we continue to engage with these students and ensure they feel connected with the opportunities available to them. A big part of this is working with parents, guardians and carers to make these young people aware there are opportunities available to them but more importantly they know how to access these opportunities. From our work in schools we are finding that some students are not having adequate levels of guidance particularly if they have become disconnected with their registered school.

Careerstorch are responding to this and we have seen more interest in out of school provision providers approaching us for quality career guidance for these students.
